LACMA bought the old May Company building on Wilshire and Fairfax
years ago. They put in some new galleries and classrooms on
the first floor, and use the other five stories for offices and
storage. For the most part you can't tell that it was ever
a department store. However, the floor were we store our art
supplies was a clothing department, and there are still dressing
rooms, mirrored columns, and really creepy abandoned escalators.
I'm afraid my photo doesn't do the creepiness justice, but you will
have to trust me on this one.
